Abstract: Fiji aims to boost Yasawa tourism via collaboration and infrastructure. Gavoka toured the islands, exploring airstrip & resort expansion (96 beds). Local partnerships emphasized.

Deputy Prime Minister Viliame Gavoka stated that the coalition government is committed to strengthening tourism in the Yasawa Islands and promoting close collaboration between landowning units and operators. Mr. Gavoka has commenced his tour of four areas: Yasawa, Nacula, Naviti, and Waya, aiming to understand the specific needs of each location.

The Ministry of Tourism released a statement indicating that the visit underscores the government's emphasis on strengthening ties with local communities and promoting tourism development in the region. As part of the itinerary, the Minister conducted a site visit to Tukuraga, where a proposed airstrip is under consideration. The development of this airstrip is intended to enhance transportation links, making the Yasawa Islands more accessible to tourists and supporting the growth of local tourism.

The Ministry of Tourism stated that the infrastructure improvements are expected to bring economic benefits to the region, while also providing more convenient travel for both tourists and residents. A major highlight of the Blue Lagoon Resort tour was its ongoing expansion project. This includes the construction of 32 new villas, adding 96 beds to the resort, with the project scheduled to commence on Monday, promising increased capacity for visitors.

This initiative is a joint venture between the resort owners and the Nacokobasaga family, the traditional landowning unit of the Tikina of Nacula. This partnership emphasizes sustainable development, ensuring that local communities are actively involved in and benefit from the growth of tourism. The expansion plan will enhance the resort's accommodation capacity and appeal, further positioning the Yasawa Islands as a premier destination in Fiji.

Mr. Gavoka and his delegation were received by Tui Drola, Ratu Manasa Nakasavaulu, District Representative Lavinia NaiValu, and staff from the Blue Lagoon Resort, signifying the importance of the visit to the local stakeholders.
