A domestic violence incident occurred at a residence in Baulkham Hills, in Sydney's northwest, this morning, where a mother and her three children were found with stab wounds. The mother has been arrested by police at the hospital. Police arrived at the scene after receiving a call around 5:15 am today.
Upon arrival, police found a 10-year-old, a 13-year-old, a 16-year-old, and a 47-year-old woman, all with stab wounds. It is understood that the 16-year-old, who requires a wheelchair, sustained one stab wound and multiple lacerations. Police stated that the 47-year-old woman is the mother of the three children and had three stab wounds to her abdomen, which police initially believe to be self-inflicted.
All injured parties received treatment at the scene before being transported to the hospital and are currently in stable condition. Detective Superintendent Naomi Moore revealed to reporters this morning that the fifth person, believed to be the children's father, controlled the domestic knife suspected of being used in the attack after the incident and called the police.
Detective Moore stated, "We believe the father was also at home at the time of the incident. We believe the father and children were in their respective rooms at the time, possibly sleeping, and the mother carried out this act. After being awakened by screams or shouts, he went to check on the situation and, to my understanding, secured the weapon and contacted the police." She also indicated that there was no prior history of domestic violence involving this family, nor any police records.
It is believed that all three children were in their own rooms when the attack occurred. Police have not yet spoken with the 47-year-old woman who is receiving treatment, and no charges have been filed at this time. Police stated that they are not currently searching for any other individuals involved in the incident.
