Abstract: UK prison officer, Linda De Sousa Abreu, jailed 15 months for sex with an inmate at Wandsworth prison. Video evidence led to her arrest after misconduct. Increased harassment of female staff followed.

A former prison officer in the UK has been jailed for having sex with an inmate. Linda De Sousa Abreu, who worked as a prison guard at Wandsworth Prison in London, was filmed engaging in sexual activity with a prisoner in his cell between June 26 and 28 last year, as reported by the BBC.

The video rapidly circulated online, and Abreu was identified by senior prison staff. The 30-year-old was arrested at Heathrow Airport after admitting to misconduct in public office.

She has now been sentenced to 15 months in prison. In a written statement submitted to the court, Wandsworth Prison Governor Andrew Davy stated that since the incident, other female staff at the prison have reported an increase in being "propositioned" and are now "seen as fair game for sexual advances."

The court also heard that Abreu's work-issued body-worn camera had also captured her engaging in sexual activity with the same inmate on another occasion.
