Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Ruler of Dubai, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, accompanied by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, met with Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The meeting took place on the first day of the World Governments Summit 2025, held in Dubai from February 11-13 under the theme "Shaping Future Governments."
According to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council, Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, Mohammad Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs of the UAE and Chairman of the World Governments Summit, and Mohamed bin Hadi Al Hussaini, Minister of State for Financial Affairs, also attended the meeting.
The meeting focused on important issues related to global economic development and explored opportunities to strengthen cooperation between the UAE and the International Monetary Fund to promote global economic stability and advance sustainable development. Both sides agreed that strengthening international cooperation is crucial to addressing global economic challenges.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid emphasized that enhanced international collaboration plays a vital role in addressing global economic challenges and developing innovative solutions for the betterment of societies. He also highlighted that the World Governments Summit is a leading platform that brings together global thought leaders, policymakers, and visionaries to share expertise and contribute to building a sustainable global economy. Sheikh Mohammed also commended the pivotal role played by international institutions, particularly the IMF, in formulating global financial policies that promote global stability and growth. He reaffirmed the UAE's commitment to remaining an active partner in strengthening the global economy by adopting innovative policies that adapt to global changes and promote sustainable growth.
Kristalina Georgieva praised the UAE's contribution to global economic and financial stability and expressed her hope for continued cooperation to address evolving economic challenges and foster global prosperity. She expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the World Governments Summit 2025, highlighting its value as a platform for global dialogue and envisioning the future global economy. Georgieva further commended the UAE's leadership in hosting this event, which brings together policymakers and experts to collectively explore innovative solutions for governments.
The World Governments Summit 2025 brings together more than 30 heads of state and government, over 80 international and regional organizations, and 140 government delegations. Its agenda includes 21 global forums exploring key future trends and transformations; over 200 interactive sessions featuring more than 300 prominent speakers, including presidents, ministers, experts, thought leaders, and decision-makers; and over 30 ministerial meetings and roundtables with the participation of over 400 ministers. The summit will also launch 30 strategic reports in collaboration with its international knowledge partners.
