During an NRL (National Rugby League) match held in Auckland on Friday night, Sea Eagles player Gordon Chan Kum Tong was filmed grabbing a Warriors fan. This incident has drawn attention, and the league has now launched an investigation.
It is understood that Chan Kum Tong was not playing at the time but was sitting in the front row of the audience. Video footage shows a Warriors fan dancing in celebration while passing a group of Sea Eagles players and staff, at which point Chan Kum Tong left his seat and grabbed the fan's jersey.
Reports indicate that the fan was taunting Sea Eagles captain Jake Trbojevic. Trbojevic had previously been temporarily sidelined after being penalized multiple times for ruck infringements and offside plays.
The NRL has released an official statement acknowledging the video circulating on social media and confirming an investigation into the matter. "The NRL is aware of the video being shared on social media and is investigating," the statement read. Chan Kum Tong was previously included in the Sea Eagles' extended squad list but was ultimately cut from the final roster. The 23-year-old has made 12 appearances for the Sea Eagles since his debut in 2023.
It was a difficult night for the Sea Eagles, who lost to the Warriors by a score of 16-36. This incident undoubtedly adds insult to injury following the team's defeat.
