Opposition Member of Parliament, Shalen Kumar, has withdrawn his support for the Leader of the Opposition, Inia Seruiratu. This announcement was made in Parliament yesterday afternoon by the Speaker, Filimone Jitoko.

03-14, 2025Mr. Jitoko stated, "Honourable Members, please note that I have received formal notification from Hon. Shalen Kumar regarding his status." He further added, "Hon. Kumar has withdrawn his support for the Leader of the Opposition and the 16-member group."
"Hon. Shalen Kumar has further notified the Speaker's Office that he will remain an independent member for the remainder of this parliamentary term and will support the group currently led by Hon. Iowane Naivalurua." Furthermore, Sachida Nand also withdrew his support for Mr. Seruiratu earlier yesterday.
This means Mr. Seruiratu now leads a 15-member group, while Iowane Naivalurua leads an 11-member group. The 11-member group has pledged its support for the Prime Minister.
