The Israeli military has announced that it is conducting a "massive strike" on the Gaza Strip. This operation marks the largest airstrike on the Gaza Strip since the ceasefire agreement took effect on January 19.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement that the targets of the operation are "terrorist targets" belonging to Hamas. The military did not disclose specific target details but emphasized that the operation aims to weaken Hamas's military capabilities in the Gaza Strip.
According to Reuters, citing medics and witnesses, three houses in Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, a building in Gaza City, and targets in Khan Younis and Rafah were attacked. These attacks have severely impacted the lives of local residents, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
Prior negotiations aimed at extending the Gaza ceasefire agreement failed to reach a consensus. All parties have been striving to find a solution, as the first phase of the temporary truce ended on March 1. The United States had proposed extending the first phase to mid-April, including further exchanges of hostages held by Hamas and Palestinian prisoners held by Israel, but this proved unsuccessful, leading to the current escalation.
