Melbourne police are searching for a man following a homophobic attack on a gay couple aboard a train in Melbourne.

According to police reports, on February 9th at approximately 4:30 PM, a 30-year-old man and his boyfriend boarded a train bound for the city center at Glen Waverley Station. As the train stopped at Syndal Station and the boyfriend prepared to disembark, a man approached the couple and allegedly verbally assaulted them with homophobic slurs.

Subsequently, the train departed the station with the 30-year-old man and the assailant still on board. Police stated that the assailant assaulted the man before disembarking at Mount Waverley Station. The assailant is described as Caucasian, between 35 and 45 years old, with a slim build, shoulder-length brown hair, and approximately 183 centimeters tall. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a grey Puma shirt, black cargo pants, and carrying a black backpack.

Police have now released a photo of a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries and are appealing to anyone with information or relevant footage to contact Crime Stoppers. Victoria Police stated, "Any demeaning and homophobic behavior is absolutely unacceptable in our community."
