Abstract: Centrelink payments increase today, March 20, due to indexation. Pensions rise by up to $4.60/fortnight for singles. JobSeeker also increases.

Due to indexation adjustments, millions of Australians receiving Centrelink benefits will receive higher payments starting today. This adjustment will benefit over five million people, including pensioners, renters, and job seekers, and takes effect on March 20.

The federal government says that, combined with indexation adjustments passed over the past three years, eligible recipients will receive an additional $3,913 to $5,902 per year, compared to when the Labor Party took office in 2022. For job seekers, the indexation adjustment will provide them with an additional $3,374 to $5,038 annually.

From March 20, the maximum single rate for individuals receiving the Age Pension, Disability Support Pension, and Carer Payment will increase by $4.60 to $1,149 per fortnight. For pensioners with a partner, the maximum pension rate will increase by $3.50 to $866.10 per fortnight, or a combined increase of $7 per fortnight to $1,732.20 for pensioner couples. These rates include the Pension Supplement and Energy Supplement.

Single Parenting Payment recipients will receive an additional $4 per fortnight, bringing their total fortnightly payment to $1,030.30, including the Pension Supplement, Pharmaceutical Allowance, and Energy Supplement. For job seekers aged 22 and over with no children, the indexation adjustment will increase their fortnightly payment by $3.10 to $789.90, including the Energy Supplement. Each person in a JobSeeker Payment, ABSTUDY (aged 22 and over), or Parenting Payment partnered will receive an extra $2.80 per fortnight, increasing the fortnightly rate to $723, including the Energy Supplement.

Minister for Social Services Amanda Rishworth said the changes would help Australians at "any age or stage of their life." "Indexation is a vital part of our social security safety net," Rishworth said when announcing the changes. "This will help alleviate some of the pressure for pensioners and other payment recipients who rely on this financial support." A complete list of changes can be found on the Department of Social Services website.
