Australian women's soccer star Sam Kerr appeared in court in London, accused of racially aggravated harassment of a police officer. Kerr is a forward for Chelsea and one of the world's top female soccer players, as well as the all-time leading scorer for the Australian national team.
The 31-year-old Kerr attended a pre-trial hearing at Kingston Crown Court. She is accused of violating the UK's Public Order Act by causing harassment, alarm, or distress to a police officer. These charges relate to an incident that occurred on January 30, 2023, in Twickenham, southwest London, when a police officer was responding to a complaint about a taxi fare.
Court documents state that Kerr intended to cause harassment, alarm, or distress to the police officer by using abusive or insulting words or behavior, or by becoming disorderly. She pleaded not guilty to the charges last March.
Kerr currently lives in the UK, playing for Chelsea in the English Women's Super League. Her trial is scheduled to begin on February 3rd and is expected to last for four days.
