Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, has expressed that she is "absolutely heartbroken" following the death of her beloved dog, Guy. She posted on Instagram that she has "shed countless tears" over Guy's passing and thanked him for his "years of unconditional love."
The Duchess stated that she adopted the beagle from a Canadian animal rescue in 2015 and that he had "been with me ever since." She did not disclose the time or cause of the dog's death. The post was also accompanied by a montage of photos and videos showing the Duchess and her family playing with Guy.
In one video clip, she is seen making jam on the stove, saying to the dog, "We're making jam, Guy." In another, her husband, the Duke of Sussex, is running with him on the beach. At the end, Meghan and one of her children can be heard singing, "We love you, Guy, yes we do."
The Duchess said that the staff at the shelter where she adopted the dog "called him 'the little guy' because he was so small and frail." "So I named him Guy. He was the best guy any girl could have," she said. "He was with me during Suits, when I got engaged (and then married), when I became a mom… he was with me always: calm, chaos, peace, and comfort."
Guy had previously appeared in the couple's Netflix documentary, "Harry & Meghan." The Duchess added that Guy will also be featured in her upcoming Netflix series, "With Love, Meghan." "I hope you understand why I'm so heartbroken by his passing. I think you may have loved him too," she said. "I've shed countless tears – the kind where you walk into the shower with a ridiculous hope that the water on your face will make you not feel them, or pretend they're not there. But they are. And that’s okay.” “Thank you for your years of unconditional love, my sweet Guy. You filled my life in ways you'll never know."
