Abstract: Tel Aviv stabbing injured four; one critical. Attacker, a foreign national, killed. Shin Bet investigates his entry despite objections. Second attack in days.

Israeli emergency services stated on Tuesday that a stabbing attack in Tel Aviv resulted in four injuries. Three of the injured were taken to Ichilov Hospital for treatment, with one person suffering a severe neck wound and in critical condition. Police reported that the attacker, a 28-year-old foreign national, was shot and killed at the scene.

Israel's intelligence agency, Shin Bet, stated that they are conducting an investigation into the decision to allow the man, who reportedly held Moroccan nationality and U.S. permanent residency, to enter the country. This is the second stabbing attack in Tel Aviv in four days, following another incident on Saturday where one person was killed by an armed civilian after being attacked.

Tuesday’s attack occurred on Nahalat Binyamin Street, an area known for its restaurants and nightlife, and nearby Gruzenberg Street, where the attacker stabbed another person and was then killed. Israeli media reported that a U.S. residency permit and border control ticket were found on the attacker’s body.

The man entered Israel on a tourist visa on January 18. Israeli Interior Minister Moshe Arbel stated that border and immigration authorities had objected to his entry when the man was at Ben Gurion Airport, but the Shin Bet security service approved his entry. He added, “I call on the head of Shin Bet, Ronen Bar, to investigate this serious incident as quickly as possible and to learn lessons from it.”

Shin Bet responded, stating, “After the individual entered Israel, a security assessment was conducted, including questioning and additional checks, and the conclusion was that there was no reason to refuse his entry on security grounds. The incident will be investigated.” Hamas did not claim responsibility for the attack, but praised it in a statement.
