Abstract: Pope Francis injured his arm in a fall, weeks after a chin bruise from another fall. His arm is in a sling but not fractured. Health concerns persist, but he won't resign.

The Vatican has stated that Pope Francis injured his right arm after an accidental fall. This comes just weeks after he suffered a severe bruise to his chin from a previous apparent fall. A spokesperson indicated that the Pope's arm was not fractured, but it has been placed in a sling as a precaution.

On December 7th, the Pope sustained a severe bruise to his chin after hitting a bedside table in what appeared to be a fall. The 88-year-old Pope has been dealing with health issues, including chronic bronchitis. He often requires a wheelchair due to knee problems. He uses a walker or cane when moving around his residence at the Casa Santa Marta.

The Vatican said that Thursday's fall also occurred at the Casa Santa Marta. Subsequently, the Pope was seen with his right arm in a sling during an audience. "This morning, Pope Francis suffered a contusion to his right forearm due to a fall at Casa Santa Marta, but there is no fracture. As a precaution, the arm has been immobilized," the statement read.

Speculation about Pope Francis's health has persisted within the Vatican, especially after Pope Benedict XVI broke a 600-year tradition by resigning from the papacy in 2013. Benedict XVI's aides have stated that his decision to resign stemmed from a nighttime fall during a 2012 visit to Mexico, after which he felt unable to continue the rigors of papal travel.

However, Pope Francis has stated that he currently has no plans to resign, even though Benedict XVI "opened" the possibility. In his autobiography, "Life: My Story Through History," released this week, Francis said that he did not consider resigning even when he underwent major intestinal surgery.
