Abstract: 91-year-old "Jopie" De Loryn bravely fought off a burglar in her Brisbane home, even chasing him. He stole valuables, including her late husband's watch. Police are investigating.

In Brisbane's South District, a 91-year-old woman successfully fought off a burglar who broke into her home. The incident occurred in Holland Park, where the residence of the victim, "Jopie" De Loryn, was invaded by a masked thief early yesterday morning. The bravery of the elderly resident has been lauded by the local community.

According to 9News, Ms. De Loryn stated that she discovered the man in the hallway shortly before 8 a.m. "He took my handbag and took my wallet out of it. He ran, and I grabbed my handbag and ran after him," she recalled. "Then he dropped the wallet on the steps. I picked it up, and then he went around, and I yelled at him, said a few not very nice words." The quick thinking and courage of De Loryn prevented the thief from getting away with more.

Ms. De Loryn and her neighbor attempted to chase the burglar, but "he was running too fast, we couldn't catch him," she said. "I'm sure there was a car parked there to pick him up." Surveillance footage captured the moment Jopie chased the thief out of the house. "I was just chasing him, I thought, well, I don't know what to do," she said. "I didn't have anything on me to hit him with, so I just, I just chased him, I wanted to see where he was going." The footage is now being used as key evidence in the ongoing investigation.

Ms. Jopie stated that the thief stole several priceless items, including her late husband's watch. "There was my engagement ring, my wedding anniversary ring, a beautiful watch my husband bought me, and all the little trinkets," she said. "So everything's gone. Everything's gone. I took it out of the box, took everything out." The sentimental value of these items far outweighs their monetary worth, leaving Jopie deeply saddened.

Currently, the police are investigating the case. Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect. The police have also increased patrols in the area to reassure residents.
