Italian club AC Milan has reached an agreement with Manchester City to loan Manchester City captain Kyle Walker until the end of the season. The agreement also includes an option for Milan to buy the defender outright in the summer after the loan period expires.
Walker, who has made 316 appearances for Manchester City, will travel to Italy for a medical examination. The full-back last played for City in the game against West Ham on January 4th. Subsequently, he informed manager Pep Guardiola of his desire to explore a move abroad.
The 34-year-old Walker prefers a move to Italy rather than the previously rumored Saudi Pro League. AC Milan was also previously linked with Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, but due to Italian registration rules, they can only sign one player from the UK in this winter transfer window.
Walker, who joined Manchester City from Tottenham in 2017 for £50 million, has been involved in all six of City's Premier League title wins under Guardiola. The 93-cap England right-back was named co-captain of Manchester City in 2023. He was one of five players chosen by his teammates to be part of the leadership group before the 2023-24 season.
Manchester City have already completed three signings in the January transfer window, spending a total of approximately £123 million. Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush joined from Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday for an initial fee of £59 million, following the signings of Vito Reis from Palmeiras (£30 million) and Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens (£33.6 million).
