Police Colonel Sanon Saengmani told the Associated Press that the three people who died in the fire on Sunday night were all foreign tourists. One person died at the scene, and the other two died after being taken to the hospital. The fire occurred on the fifth floor of the six-story Ember Hotel.
Khao San Road is a famous backpacker hub in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, and is known for its vibrant nightlife. At the time of the incident, there were 75 guests staying at the hotel. Police stated that the fire was eventually brought under control, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The fire also injured seven people, including two Thai citizens and five foreign tourists. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt emphasized that city safety is crucial as New Year's Eve countdown celebrations approach, during which fireworks and other festivities will be held throughout the city.
