According to the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a United Airlines flight scheduled to fly from Houston to New York was urgently evacuated before takeoff due to a reported engine problem.
The Houston Fire Department stated in a post on X that they had arrived at the scene and assisted passengers in deplaning. The flight was originally scheduled to depart from George Bush Intercontinental Airport, bound for LaGuardia Airport in New York. The fire department reported that there have been no reports of injuries so far.
According to CNN affiliate KRIV, a video taken by a passenger showed smoke and flames coming from the plane's wing. In the video, a flight attendant can be heard asking passengers to remain seated. One passenger responded, "No, it's on fire!"
A United Airlines spokesperson told CNN in a statement that the 104 passengers and 5 crew members on board evacuated via slides and stairs on the runway and have been rebooked on afternoon flights.
