The monthly craft market in Dorchester, the county town of Dorset, has attracted thousands of visitors. Organizers have stated that the event has been a huge success, far exceeding expectations.
The market, held on Sundays in Dorchester, attracted over 10,000 visitors when it was first held in April. Due to the market's success, some town center shops have also begun opening for at least half the day.
New dates for 2025 have been set, but stalls will no longer be located in Bowling Alley Walk and Borough Gardens, due to visitor unpopularity. Jules Bradburn, the market organizer, stated in a report submitted to the Town Joint Market Group: “Footfall was beyond target, and the market seems to have been well received by both locals and visitors.”
Mr. Bradburn also mentioned: “We spoke to many people who had travelled specifically to attend the market from Poole and Bournemouth, and even one person who had come from Kent to stay with his mother for the duration of the market. Traders were very pleased with the footfall and sales figures.”
Mr. Bradburn stated that the market will now be concentrated around South Street and South Walks. The next event is scheduled for April 27th.
