Abstract: Trump suspends tariffs on Canada/Mexico for 30 days after border security deal. China tariffs proceed. USAID travel halted, possibly closing per Musk.

U.S. President Donald Trump held negotiations with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, respectively, and reached an agreement to suspend the originally planned tariffs for at least one month. This decision was made after the three countries reached a consensus on border security issues, aiming to avoid potential trade conflicts.

However, the Trump administration's tariff plan targeting China is still scheduled to take effect on Tuesday. Meanwhile, staff at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) have been instructed not to travel to headquarters in Washington. This follows billionaire Elon Musk's announcement that President Trump has agreed to his proposal to close the agency. This event has sparked widespread attention and has impacted the agency's operations.

It is reported that Musk's government efficiency division has been granted broad powers to investigate the federal government. President Trump announced on Monday that he would postpone the tariff threats against the two neighboring countries for 30 days, as Canada and Mexico agreed to strengthen border security measures. Previously, Trump had directed the imposition of 25% tariffs on most imports from these two American partners and 10% tariffs on Canadian energy products, which were originally scheduled to take effect at midnight on Tuesday.

Canada and Mexico had previously threatened retaliatory measures, which increased the possibility of a regional trade war. Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau stated in a statement on social media platform X that, during his call with Trump, he pledged to strengthen cooperation on border security. Mexico also took similar actions earlier on Monday. Trudeau stated, "During our collaborative efforts, the proposed tariffs will be suspended for at least 30 days."

Meanwhile, Senate Democrats have highlighted the economic losses that Trump's tariff policies are causing for voters. This series of events demonstrates that the U.S. government's trade policies and agency operations are facing multiple challenges and uncertainties.
