The West Lindsey District Council has received a planning application for the development of new facilities at a former airfield site, once utilized by the automotive industry. The plan aims to enhance the existing facilities at Blyton Park, located near Gainsborough, with a focus on improving the overall infrastructure.
According to the proposal, those involved hope to construct pit garages, a control tower, and a new hospitality area at Blyton Park. Formerly RAF Blyton, the site has been used for motorsports since it ceased operating as an active base in 1955, establishing itself as a prominent racing venue.
Track manager Alan Mugglestone stated that the proposal would make the venue an "important part" of the automotive industry. He emphasized that Blyton Park is more than just a racetrack; it is a testing and development track designed to provide customers with better experiences and facilities, thereby remaining at the forefront of the automotive sector. Mugglestone also mentioned that Blyton Park hosts numerous car manufacturers, such as Bentley, which recently refined systems there for use in their road vehicles, highlighting its importance to the industry.
Mugglestone indicated that, pending planning permission, construction of the new facilities is hoped to be completed by the end of 2025. Official figures state that the track welcomes approximately 40,000 drivers annually from across the UK and as far afield as Australia and Brazil, underscoring its international appeal.
Ginetta Motorsport CEO Mike Simpson, whose company owns the site, said the proposed facilities would "promote" the growth of the automotive industry in Lincolnshire. He noted that traditionally, motorsport has been heavily focused around the Silverstone area, but motorsport in the North of England is thriving, which is economically beneficial. Simpson added that at Blyton Park, people witness F1 stars taking their first steps in motorsport, while engineers, mechanics, and logistics personnel also benefit. He expressed pride in the achievements made and looks forward to further development with the support of the new infrastructure, anticipating a bright future.
