According to CNN, citing Israeli political sources, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presented President Donald Trump with a golden pager during their meeting in Washington on Tuesday.
The gift alluded to a deadly operation conducted by Israel in Lebanon in September, which targeted pagers used by members of the Iranian-backed armed group Hezbollah. This operation aimed to disrupt Hezbollah's communication network and carried significant symbolic weight.
On September 17, thousands of explosions targeted Hezbollah members, focusing on their pagers, followed by an attack on walkie-talkies a day later. The Lebanese Health Ministry reported that the explosions resulted in at least 37 deaths, including some children, and nearly 3,000 injuries, many of whom were civilians.
In response, Trump presented Netanyahu with a signed photograph of the two of them on Tuesday. According to a photo posted on Instagram by Netanyahu's son, Yair Netanyahu, Trump signed the photo with the message: "To Bibi, a great leader!"
Israel stated on Thursday that it has begun preparations to arrange for the departure of a significant number of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, in accordance with President Donald Trump's territorial plan. Concurrently, officials indicated that Egypt has launched a diplomatic offensive behind the scenes in an attempt to thwart the plan.
The Trump administration has already walked back parts of the proposal after it was widely rejected internationally. The U.S. government has stated that the relocation of Palestinians would be temporary, but U.S. officials have offered few details about how or when the plan would be implemented.
