The daughter of the late Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos has been banned from drinking on planes and at airports after a drunken brawl with another passenger on a Jetstar flight with her husband. Australian police stated that Analisa Josefa Cole and James Alexander Cole caused a "disturbance" due to being intoxicated and "behaving inappropriately" on a flight from Hobart to Sydney on December 29.
Police said Ms. Cole was accused of "grabbing and shaking another passenger as she exited the aircraft toilet." The pair were subsequently escorted off the plane. They pleaded not guilty to charges of failing to comply with safety instructions and consuming alcohol not provided by the crew, but agreed to an alcohol ban while on bail on Friday.
If convicted, they could face fines of up to A$13,750 (about $8,520; £6,925) for each charge. Ms. Cole also denied a charge of assaulting a passenger on the plane, which carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison. They were also each required to provide a A$20,000 surety, which would be forfeited if they breach any of their bail conditions.
Ms. Cole, 53, is the daughter of Marcos and former Sydney model Evelyn Hegyesi, who was raised in Australia, making her the half-sister of the current Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Ms. Cole describes herself as an interior designer on Instagram. Mr. Cole, 45, is a former soldier, according to Australian media reports.
In a statement regarding the case, police urged travelers to "be mindful of their behavior at airports." Australian Federal Police Sergeant Luke Stockwell said: "You don't want to start the new year facing a hefty fine, or even worse, time in custody." He added, "The AFP are increasing patrols across all major airports during the holiday period and will not tolerate dangerous, disruptive or abusive behaviour from travellers."
Jetstar did not comment directly on the matter, but a spokesperson said the company "does not tolerate disruptive behaviour on our aircraft." He added, "The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is our number one priority."
