Abstract: Monaco GP will now require two pit stops and use of two tire types to boost excitement. FIA approved the change for more dynamic racing.

The most prestigious race in Formula One is about to undergo a significant transformation, aiming to enhance the spectacle and excitement of the Grand Prix. This move is expected to bring more strategy and unpredictability to the race, further captivating audiences.

The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the governing body of motorsport, has approved a proposal mandating two pit stops during the Monaco Grand Prix, regardless of whether conditions are dry or wet. Furthermore, drivers will also be required to use two different tire compounds during each Grand Prix, adding a layer of complexity to tire management.

The Monaco Grand Prix is the crown jewel of F1, but its narrow street circuit makes overtaking extremely difficult, often relying on driver errors. Overtaking on the track has become even more challenging since the widening of F1 cars in 2017. Therefore, mandating two pit stops for all drivers is considered an effective way to improve the race's entertainment value and create more dynamic racing.

This proposal was presented at the F1 Commission meeting earlier this month and received approval from the FIA World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) on Wednesday. A statement indicated that "The WMSC reviewed a proposal to implement a mandatory two-stop strategy (regardless of wet or dry conditions) for the Monaco Grand Prix, with the primary objective of enhancing the sporting spectacle of this event," showing the commitment to improving the race.

The statement also added, "Following recent discussions in the F1 Commission, a specific requirement for the Monaco Grand Prix has been approved, mandating the use of at least three sets of tires during the race, with at least two different specifications of dry weather tires to be used if the race takes place in dry conditions." This year's Monaco Grand Prix, the eighth round of the F1 season, will be held from May 23rd to 25th, promising a potentially thrilling event.
