A man has been charged after allegedly stabbing another man on a bus in Melbourne's south and then hiding in a lake. The incident occurred last night.

Police stated that the accused man verbally abused another man on a bus traveling along Canterbury Road in Middle Park at approximately 9 pm last night, before stabbing him.

The victim, a 27-year-old man, was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

According to police, the assailant then fled the scene on foot and was later located in a nearby lake, refusing to come out. Water police attended the scene and persuaded the man to exit the lake.

The 32-year-old man from Prahran was subsequently arrested and treated by paramedics. He has been charged with intentionally causing injury and has been remanded in custody to appear in Melbourne Magistrates' Court today.
