Due to the impact of Tropical Cyclone Alfred, American punk band Green Day was forced to cancel their concert originally scheduled for Wednesday night at Robina Stadium on the Gold Coast, Australia, which also means they were unable to complete their Australian tour.
The band released a statement on Instagram on Tuesday afternoon: "To our fans in Australia, we are very sorry to inform you that due to circumstances beyond our control, tomorrow's Gold Coast concert has been forced to be cancelled. Cyclone Alfred will bring extremely severe weather, and under these circumstances, we cannot guarantee the safe execution of the show. We know this is very disappointing for everyone, and we are equally frustrated. Please stay safe!"
Green Day was originally scheduled to conclude their Australian tour with the performance on the Gold Coast, with fellow American punk band AFI as a guest act. Over the past week, the two bands have held several sold-out concerts in stadiums in Sydney and Melbourne. However, approximately 24 hours before the show, the venue confirmed that the concert was cancelled.
Cbus Super Stadium said in a statement: "Due to the predicted extreme weather conditions, Cbus Super Stadium has been notified that Green Day's Saviors concert has been cancelled. We know that fans were looking forward to this concert, and we are as disappointed as you are. The concert organizers have done everything possible to ensure that the event could proceed, but in the current circumstances, the safety and travel of the audience, performers, and staff cannot be guaranteed."
Tour promoter Live Nation confirmed that the show has been cancelled, not postponed, and all ticket holders will automatically receive a refund. The statement mentioned: "Due to Green Day's international tour schedule, it is not possible to reschedule the Gold Coast show to another date. All ticket holders will receive a full refund from Ticketmaster. Our thoughts are with all those affected by Cyclone Alfred." Refunds will be automatically returned to the original payment method used for purchase and are expected to be credited within 14-21 days.
