Abstract: O'Connor & Whippy's bail extended in MH fire case. Final documents received: CCTV & witness statement. O'Connor: abuse of office, Whippy: inciting. Case adjourned to April 15.

The bail for former National Fire Authority CEO John O'Connor and Carpenters Fiji PTE Limited General Manager Daniel Kingston Whippy has been extended, following their receipt of the final disclosure documents yesterday.

The Suva Magistrates Court heard that the disclosed documents included a witness statement and a copy of CCTV footage.

Mr. Whippy, represented by Suruj Sharma from Patel Sharma Lawyers, faces one count of inciting the commission of an offense. Mr. O'Connor, represented by Roylesh Nand from Lajendra Lawyers, faces one count of abuse of office for gain.

It is alleged that the two men altered the findings of an investigation into the MH warehouse fire in April 2018. Mr. O'Connor is accused of directing National Fire Authority officers to amend the agency's report on the Walu Bay fire to "gain a benefit," while Mr. Whippy is accused of inciting Mr. O'Connor to commit the offense.

Meanwhile, Mr. Suruj confirmed that his client has surrendered his passport upon returning from surgery overseas. The case has been adjourned until April 15 for further hearing.
