Australian heavyweight boxer Brock Jarvis and Keith Thurman have engaged in a heated war of words, setting the stage for their highly anticipated super welterweight showdown in Sydney. The match has garnered significant attention, with both fighters eager to secure a victory and enhance their respective careers.
Jarvis expressed his fury at being labeled a "Bondi bum" and vowed to knock Thurman out at the Hordern Pavilion on Wednesday night. Jarvis firmly believes that being ten years younger than the American will have a significant impact on Thurman. Both fighters are brimming with confidence, each convinced of their ability to overcome their opponent.
At Monday's pre-fight press conference, Jarvis stated, "Keith is an old man now, he's not the same guy he used to be. He thinks he is, but he's not. I saw him the other day, he doesn't look ready at all, looks like he's been at a yoga class or something. He's had some serious injuries, he's finding it hard to get back to the top, so I'm going to punch him and hurt him."
Thurman, 36, a former unified world champion, is making his first appearance in the ring in three years. He reminded Jarvis that he is a future "Hall of Famer" and that his only professional career loss was against the great Manny Pacquiao. Thurman said, "He's never seen a stage like this. Even if I'm 46, I can still whoop him. Even if I'm 56, I can still whoop him. They think I'm some mysterious creature. They wonder why I'm still here, but when I bring the heat, you'll see what it's all about."
A victory for Jarvis could potentially lead to a blockbuster domestic clash with Nikita Tszyu. Thurman, on the other hand, has his sights set on Tszyu's superstar older brother, Tim, after a scheduled bout in Las Vegas last year was called off due to a torn bicep. Thurman stated, "I'll wait for the next contract. If Tszyu's name is on the contract, I'm happy to sign it. I signed a contract once to fight Tim Tszyu. Unfortunately, we couldn't make that fight happen. Maybe this year is the opportunity."
