Abstract: Search continues for a driver swept away by floodwaters in NSW after his car was washed off a bridge. He briefly held onto a tree before disappearing.

The search continues for a driver who went missing in the flood-affected areas of northern New South Wales. Emergency services received a report yesterday evening that a four-wheel drive vehicle had been swept off the bridge on Buffalo Creek near Old Coramba Road, northeast of Dorrigo, and into the raging floodwaters.

It was reported that the driver had managed to exit the vehicle and grab onto a tree located 30 meters from the riverbank. Police stated that they had a brief communication with the man.

However, shortly after 3 p.m. yesterday afternoon, the man was unfortunately swept away from the tree and was seen disappearing below the surface of the water. Police have stated that he has not been seen since.

New South Wales Premier Chris Minns confirmed that search and rescue operations were still underway this morning. The State Emergency Service (SES) and NSW Police Force are strongly urging the public not to drive through flooded areas.
