Abstract: Brisbane mother Annie Coburn gave birth to Winnie during Cyclone Alfred after a 13-hour labor. Another mother, Han Zhang, had premature baby Alfie.

A new mother in Brisbane recounted her experience giving birth during the ex-tropical cyclone Alfred. Annie Coburn began experiencing signs of labor on Friday night, and her husband, Harrison, quickly rushed her to Mater Mothers' Hospital in Brisbane. The couple was understandably anxious about the impending birth and the severe weather conditions.

Amidst the cyclone's fury, Annie endured a 13-hour labor, ultimately giving birth to her daughter, Winnie, at 12:36 pm on Saturday. "Considering everything, we're doing great, and she's a little star," Mrs. Coburn said in an interview. The couple braved the severe weather to make their way to the hospital, focusing on the health of both mother and child.

Mrs. Coburn stated, "Honestly, I didn't even think about the cyclone, except when we were driving in and experiencing the crazy wind and rain." She added, "But once we got to the hospital, I felt like we entered a different world." Mr. Coburn commented, "To be honest, the whole thing was a bit of a whirlwind." The hospital staff provided a safe and reassuring environment during the turbulent weather.

Mr. Coburn revealed that they had considered naming a boy Alfie, but it wasn't related to the cyclone. "It's true—the cyclone was just a coincidence. I'm a mad Brisbane Broncos fan and wanted to name him after Alfie Langer." However, Mrs. Coburn stated that she was "glad she's a girl," relieved that the naming dilemma was resolved. The name Winnie carries its own special significance for the family.

Meanwhile, another Brisbane mother gave birth to a premature baby boy named Alfie on Wednesday as the cyclone approached. Parents Han and Ning Zhang welcomed their son on Wednesday at Mater Mothers' Hospital, seven weeks premature and weighing 1.8 kilograms. Both families experienced unique and challenging circumstances surrounding the births of their children.
