A well-known football supporter died of an opioid overdose while on vacation in Thailand, an inquest hearing has learned. The deceased was Connor Abbott, who resided in Thirsk.

Mr. Abbott was found dead in a hotel room in Bangkok's Phra Nakhon district on September 22, at the age of 23. At an inquest hearing held at North Yorkshire Coroner's Court on Tuesday, his cause of death was confirmed as morphine toxicity.

York City Football Club manager Adam Hinshelwood and club co-chairman Matt Uggla, among others, have expressed their condolences for Mr. Abbott's passing. York City supporters group SC Block Reds also paid tribute to Mr. Abbott, saying he had supported the club since he was a teenager. They wrote: "Home and away, we've had some laughs over the years."

Mr. Abbott had worked at the Racha Thai Bistro restaurant in Thirsk, which described him as "a much-loved member of our team." The restaurant owner posted on social media, saying: "Connor dedicated many years to our restaurant and made an impression on everyone he met. His kindness, work ethic, and unwavering commitment will be forever remembered."

North Yorkshire Senior Coroner Jon Heath has adjourned the inquest hearing to a date yet to be determined.
