Despite a slight slowdown in his goal-scoring rate, Erling Haaland reached a new milestone in Manchester City's 2-2 draw with Brighton. His Premier League goal contributions (total goals and assists) reached 100, a feat he accomplished in just 94 games.
The previous record holder was Alan Shearer, who took 100 games to reach the same level. Haaland joined Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in June 2022 for £51.2 million, and he and Shearer are the only two players to reach this figure in their third Premier League season. Notably, Shearer played several seasons in the old First Division, and those stats are not counted towards this record.
Other players took longer to reach 100 Premier League goal contributions. Sergio Agüero, Thierry Henry, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Les Ferdinand, and Matt Le Tissier all took four seasons. Eric Cantona, Mohamed Salah (including his two seasons at Chelsea), and Andy Cole took five seasons, while Harry Kane took six seasons, including a season where he only made one appearance.
Haaland's first 100 Premier League goal contributions include 84 goals and 16 assists. Before reaching this milestone, only former Tottenham Hotspur striker Kane had fewer assists, with 13. Cantona (playing for Leeds United and Manchester United) had the most assists, with 42, followed by Southampton legend Le Tissier with 38.
Since transferring from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester City, Haaland has won the Premier League Golden Boot in his first two seasons. However, this season he has scored 20 goals in 27 games, trailing Liverpool's Salah by seven goals, and Salah also leads in assists with 17 compared to Haaland's 3. Nevertheless, Haaland had a strong start to the season, scoring 10 goals in his first five games, the best start in the English top flight since Pongo Waring of Aston Villa in 1930.
This season, the Norwegian striker is averaging a goal or assist every 103 minutes in the Premier League, compared to 63 minutes in his first season and 80 minutes last season. Haaland has the highest success rate in the Premier League against Manchester City's local rivals Manchester United, contributing six goals and three assists in five games. He has scored nine goals in six games against West Ham United, but without any assists.
Haaland's next milestone is reaching 100 Premier League goals. Shearer holds the record, with his 100th goal (all scored for Blackburn) coming in his 124th appearance. Haaland has 30 games left and needs to score 16 more goals to achieve this milestone.
