Abstract: Asda driver Leandro Pinto Dantas saved an unconscious diabetic customer's life by calling emergency services after noticing something was wrong. He is praised for his quick thinking.

A delivery driver has received widespread praise for his actions in rescuing an unconscious customer. The driver's decisive actions saved the customer's life, demonstrating a high degree of responsibility and professional ethics. His quick thinking highlights the importance of vigilance and compassion in everyday interactions.

Leandro Pinto Dantas, from the Asda supermarket in Poole, Dorset, said he "felt something was wrong" when he arrived at the home of the woman, who is in her sixties, because no one answered the door. He further explained: "The lights were on and the TV was on. I knocked on the door, but no one answered, so I called the delivery contact number we have, but no one answered either." His concern grew with each unanswered attempt to reach the customer, prompting him to investigate further.

After carefully observing through the window, Mr. Pinto Dantas saw the customer lying unconscious on the floor, and he immediately called 999 emergency services. Paramedics arrived and treated the woman, who suffers from diabetes, administering glucose to raise her dangerously low blood sugar levels. The timely intervention prevented potentially severe consequences for the customer's health.

Mr. Pinto Dantas believes that his being at work that day was a matter of fate: "I wasn't supposed to be working, but I swapped shifts. I'm so glad I was there and saved her." While paramedics attended to the woman, he packed away her shopping items, and after she was taken to the hospital, he completed his shift. A few days later, he visited her home and brought her some flowers, showing his continued care and concern.

In gratitude to Leandro, the woman wrote a letter to the Bournemouth Echo, praising him as a "wonderful young man." She said: "What he did was absolutely above and beyond what I would expect from a supermarket delivery driver." She also recalled: "I don't remember what happened, only that I had a hypo, and then I woke up with a paramedic injecting me with glucose to raise my blood sugar levels. My blood pressure wasn't great either, so I was taken to the hospital for checks and allowed home the next day."

Since the incident, Mr. Pinto Dantas has been nominated for an Asda Service Superstar award. This nomination is a recognition of his heroic actions and inspires more people to show care and responsibility in their work. His dedication serves as a reminder of the positive impact individuals can have on their communities.
