Body found in search for man who fell into Brisbane River

Abstract: Body of PJ Meafua, 23, recovered from Brisbane River after Sunday fall at Jindalee Boat Ramp. Unable to swim, he slipped; search concluded today.

The search operation has concluded, with police recovering a body from the Brisbane River, confirmed to be the man who fell from a pontoon and went missing on Sunday.

According to police reports, 23-year-old PJ Meafua accidentally fell into the river around 5:40 AM while with family and friends at the Jindalee Boat Ramp. It is understood that Meafua was unable to swim.

Immediately after the incident, those present jumped into the water in an attempt to rescue him, but Meafua did not resurface. Following a continuous search effort, police discovered his body this morning.

Acting Inspector Shane Thow stated on Sunday, "This was simply an unfortunate accident, he slipped. There is no indication that they were mucking around at the time."

Water Police, patrol units, the police helicopter (Polair), and the State Emergency Service (SES) promptly launched a large-scale search, which continued throughout the day.
