Abstract: Israel resumed Gaza ground incursion & airstrikes, escalating conflict. Casualties rise (500+ dead since ceasefire end). Hamas retaliated. UN staff killed.

The Israeli army launched a new ground incursion into Beit Lahia in the northern Gaza Strip on Thursday, while also conducting airstrikes on multiple areas in the region. This move marks a further escalation of the conflict, sparking widespread concern from the international community.

According to Al Jazeera, citing medical sources, at least 110 Palestinians have been killed since dawn, bringing the death toll to over 500 since Israel ended the ceasefire on Tuesday. The rising casualty figures reflect the brutality of the conflict.

Israel has stated that it will no longer allow Palestinians to enter northern Gaza from the south and has ordered residents to stay away from the Salah al-Din Road that runs through the area, instead using the coastal road. Hamas fired rockets at Tel Aviv after not retaliating against Israeli attacks for the past two days.

The Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, claimed that they "bombed Tel Aviv with M90 missiles in response to the massacres against civilians." Qassam Brigades spokesman Abu Obaida also praised Yemen's Ansar Allah (also known as the Houthi movement) for also firing rockets at Israel in retaliation for the resumption of hostilities in Gaza.

Abu Obaida called on "the free people of our nation to participate in the battle to defend the Al-Aqsa Mosque and to continue supporting Gaza in order to break the enemy's strength." Israeli forces subsequently ordered Palestinians to leave the Bani Suheila area in southern Gaza, claiming that Hamas was firing rockets from there.

Philippe Lazzarini, head of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), said that five of the agency's staff members had been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza in the past few days. "Five more UNRWA colleagues have been confirmed killed in the past few days, bringing the total to 284. They were teachers, doctors and nurses, serving the most vulnerable," he said on social media platform X. "The Israeli army's continued bombardment from the air and sea has entered its third day. Given the ongoing ground incursion that is isolating the north from the south, we fear the worst is yet to come."

Furthermore, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres condemned Israel's deadly attack on a UN compound in Gaza on Wednesday, but did not specify the attackers. "I am appalled by the deaths and serious injuries sustained by colleagues in Gaza following an attack on a UN compound," Guterres said on X. "I condemn all attacks on UN personnel and call for a full investigation."

Hundreds of Israeli protesters gathered near the residence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday and were forcibly dispersed by police. They were protesting Netanyahu's failure to secure the release of the remaining Israeli hostages in Gaza, his decision to return to war and endanger their lives, and his plan to fire the head of Shin Bet, Israel's internal intelligence agency. Democratic opposition leader Yair Golan was knocked to the ground during the demonstration.

More than 49,000 Palestinians have died in Israel's war on Gaza. Israel's actions in the besieged Palestinian enclave have led major UN bodies and human rights organizations to accuse it of committing genocide. Israel is currently on trial at the International Court of Justice, accused of violating the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
