Abstract: NSW workplace safety alert after a fatal recycling center truck accident & car repair injury. SafeWork NSW issued notices & urges safety checks.

A fatal truck accident at a recycling center in western Sydney has triggered a statewide workplace safety alert in New South Wales. A man in his 50s tragically died while working at the Greenacre recycling center around 7:30 pm last night, and an investigation has been launched.

Just hours earlier, a workplace injury also occurred at a car repair shop in Auburn, where a worker in his 40s was seriously injured after being crushed between two cars. Both incidents occurred during targeted compliance operations across the state aimed at reducing workplace injuries.

SafeWork NSW has issued prohibition notices to the workplaces involved, enforcing safer systems of work for handling vehicles. Nearly 250 notices have been issued since last month, including one on a street in Prestons, where 12 inspections over three days resulted in 42 improvement notices and 7 prohibition notices being issued.

Head of SafeWork NSW, Trent Curtin, stated, "It is devastating to have had these two serious incidents occur in such a short period of time, and I extend my condolences to their families, friends, and colleagues."

Mr. Curtin emphasized, "Those working with or around moving plant, fixed machinery, and vehicles need to stop and check the safety systems they have in place to prevent these types of incidents from occurring again."
