Abstract: Trump plans to "immediately" end Secret Service protection for Biden's adult children, citing agent allocation concerns. SS will comply.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Monday that he would "immediately" terminate Secret Service protection for the adult children of Democrat Joe Biden, protection that Trump had extended until July shortly before leaving office this January.

The Republican president objected on social media to what he said was the allocation of 18 agents to Hunter Biden's protective detail, who is reportedly in South Africa this week. He also stated that Ashley Biden has 13 agents assigned to her protection and that she "will also be removed from the list." This decision reflects Trump's ongoing scrutiny of government spending and resource allocation.

Under federal law, former presidents and their spouses are entitled to lifetime Secret Service protection, but protection for their immediate family members over the age of 16 ends when they leave office. However, an outgoing president can extend protection for those who would otherwise be ineligible for up to six months after leaving office, which Biden had done for his children and Trump had also done for his family after leaving office in 2021. These extensions are often granted to ensure a smooth transition and continued safety.

The Secret Service stated in a statement: "We have been informed of the President's decision to terminate protection for Hunter and Ashley Biden. The Secret Service will comply with this decision and is actively working with the protective details and the White House to ensure compliance as quickly as possible." The agency is prepared to implement the changes efficiently and professionally.

On Monday afternoon, while visiting the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, a reporter asked Trump whether he would revoke protection for the former president's sons. "Well, we've done that to a lot of people. I would say, if Hunter Biden has 18 people, I'll be looking at that this afternoon," Trump said, adding that it was the first time he had heard about it. "I'll be looking at it," he said, indicating his immediate attention to the matter.
