Abstract: Queensland's outback faces record floods, isolating areas and threatening millions in livestock losses. Major flood warnings issued for multiple rivers.

Queensland's outback is experiencing a historically unprecedented and severe flood, with the disaster so critical that it is projected to be the worst on record for the region. The floods have forced residents to evacuate, leaving some areas completely isolated, and livestock losses could reach millions.

Vast areas of the outback have been submerged due to record-breaking rainfall sweeping across western Queensland. The Wide Bay region of Queensland was hit with 300mm of rain in just 24 hours. Currently, many areas in outback Queensland remain on high alert, bracing for severe flooding.

Flood warnings have been issued for a vast area stretching from the Gulf region all the way to southeastern Queensland. Several major rivers still face the threat of bursting their banks, potentially causing even greater devastation to the region. The Bureau of Meteorology has issued major flood warnings for the Bulloo, Flinders, Georgina, Paroo, Thomson, Barcoo, and Warrego rivers.

The Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, and Brisbane have all been affected by rainfall, but the situation in the southeast coastal areas is expected to ease. While Queenslanders are no strangers to extreme weather events, the economic toll from this week's floods is steadily mounting.

National Party Leader David Littleproud has stated that the losses of sheep and cattle could reach millions, but the full impact may take some time to become apparent. He told the "Today" program, "I got some bad news yesterday, it’s pretty grim, we'll just wait and see what the livestock losses are. This could be as bad as the north-west Queensland situation in 2019 where we lost over a million head of livestock, so we just need to have a further look."
