UAE President, Afghanistan Interior Minister discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, received His Excellency Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Minister of Interior of Afghanistan, at Qasr Al Shati Palace in Abu Dhabi today. During the meeting, the two sides discussed the recent developments in Afghanistan and explored ways to enhance bilateral cooperation to serve the common interests of both countries, particularly in development-related fields.

The two sides also reviewed the efforts made to support Afghanistan's reconstruction and stability, aiming to promote the development and prosperity of the Afghan people. The Afghan Minister of Interior praised the cooperation between the UAE and Afghanistan and expressed his appreciation for the humanitarian aid provided by the UAE to the Afghan people. The UAE has provided assistance to Afghanistan in various sectors, including health, infrastructure, road construction, schools, mosques, hospitals, and universities.

According to the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the total amount of UAE aid to Afghanistan reached $1.5 billion between 2001 and 2012. From 2012 to 2017, the aid exceeded $433 million. According to data from the Observatory of Economic Complexity (OEC), the UAE exported $1.22 billion worth of goods to Afghanistan, while Afghanistan exported $32.5 million worth of goods to the UAE.

Earlier this month, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE, met with Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, and affirmed the UAE's commitment to supporting the friendly Afghan people in achieving their aspirations for stability, development, and prosperity, as well as supporting Afghanistan's path to development and progress. During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral relations and how to strengthen them to achieve the common interests of both countries and promote the prosperity and well-being of their peoples.

They also reviewed how to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the economic and development fields, while supporting Afghanistan's reconstruction and development efforts to serve its development plans and goals, all within the framework of the strong and long-standing relations between the two friendly countries and peoples.
