Abstract: Meta offers up to $5k to US creators joining Facebook/Instagram. Aims to lure them from other platforms (like TikTok). Must post Reels regularly.

Social media giant Meta has announced it will offer rewards of up to $5,000 (approximately £4,040) to prominent US content creators who join Facebook and Instagram. This move aims to attract creators from other social platforms, with the specific reward amount determined based on their "social influence assessment."

While Meta has not directly mentioned TikTok, the timing of this initiative suggests the company is attempting to capitalize on the uncertainty surrounding TikTok in the United States. Given the unclear situation regarding whether President Trump can find a way for TikTok to continue serving US users, many users may be seeking alternative platforms to post content.

Meta stated on its website that creators included in the "Breakout Rewards Program" will receive their rewards within 90 days of joining the apps, provided they post content regularly. Specifically, users must post at least 20 Reels short videos on Facebook and 10 Reels short videos on Instagram in each 30-day period. These videos must be original content and not previously shared on other platforms.

Not everyone is eligible for the program, as only those who are entirely new to Facebook or Instagram will qualify for the rewards. Meta will decide whether to accept applications on a case-by-case basis, and applicants must submit an application to join the program. Additionally, Meta offers other benefits, such as a free subscription to its blue verification system.

Meta has recently taken a series of actions aimed at attracting TikTok users. For example, the company launched the Edits app, which is very similar to ByteDance's video editing app CapCut. Furthermore, Meta has introduced a new affiliate link experience, allowing users to add prominent affiliate links directly in their videos, mirroring TikTok's model. Instagram's appearance has also been adjusted, with posts and videos on user profiles no longer being square but rectangular, clearly drawing inspiration from TikTok's design. Instagram head Adam Mosseri has stated that he has noted the criticism caused by these changes and admitted that the company did not do enough in terms of prior notification.
