Passengers on select flights were the first to experience a new process allowing entry into Australia without the need to fill out cumbersome incoming passenger cards. These passengers, through the use of the new Digital Passenger Declaration (ATD), participated in a joint initiative by the Australian government, experiencing a "fast-track entry process."
Qantas was the first to test the program, initially implementing it on flight QF126 from Auckland to Brisbane. The program will soon expand to passengers flying to Brisbane from other cities in New Zealand. Qantas has stated that other Australian cities and some international destinations will also be included in the program in the coming months.
Travelers can complete the form through the Qantas app up to 72 hours before their flight departs. They will receive a QR code to present to Australian Border Force officials, replacing the paper-based arrival card. However, if travelers still prefer to use the existing paper-based incoming passenger card, they can continue to do so.
Qantas Chief Customer and Digital Officer, Catriona Larritt, stated that this will make travel more convenient. “Paperless declarations mean no more scrambling for a pen and filling out flight details on the plane,” she said. “Passengers will have three days to complete the digital form at a time and place that suits them.”
