Abstract: Nigerian zookeeper, Babugi Dauda, fatally attacked by a lion at Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library zoo due to negligence. The lion was euthanized.

It is reported that a tragic incident occurred at a zoo in Nigeria, where a man was killed by a lion attack. Police have confirmed that the 35-year-old zookeeper died inside an enclosure at the wildlife park of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library. The news was first reported by the Nigerian news outlet, Premium Times.

According to a police statement cited by the media, the deceased, named Babugi Dauda, was a trainer of a male lion at the presidential library's zoo. Police indicated that Dauda was negligent when approaching the lion's cage for feeding, failing to properly lock the cage door and barriers. "This negligence led to the lion escaping and attacking the caretaker, inflicting fatal neck injuries that ultimately caused his death."

The incident occurred on September 28th. The Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Wildlife Park also released a statement, saying that the caretaker was demonstrating the feeding process to visitors after the park had closed. "The caretaker may have been too familiar with the animal, failing to close the safety gate properly during feeding. He was attacked by the animal and died on the spot."

Following the incident, the lion has been euthanized. This event has raised concerns about safety measures at zoos and sparked discussions about the risks involved in the work of zookeepers.
