New route to Europe from Sydney with arrival of new airline

Today, Sydney residents welcomed a new route to Europe as Turkish Airlines' inaugural flight landed at Sydney Airport this afternoon. The airline will operate four weekly flights, transporting thousands of passengers from Sydney to Istanbul.

Turkish Airlines' flights will also bring 68,620 inbound seats to Sydney, projected to generate $53 million for the local tourism economy. Furthermore, the airline's operations at Sydney Airport are expected to create 290 jobs.

New South Wales Premier Chris Minns welcomed the arrival of the new airline. "This route will open up an exciting new destination for Australians wanting to book overseas travel, and provide an opportunity for tourists wanting to experience the wonderful offerings of our state," he said. "Sydney is rated as a top global destination for a reason, and we are supporting our airport to attract more people to visit, spend, and create jobs for NSW."

Sydney Airport CEO Scott Charlton stated that the arrival of Turkish Airlines "highlights Sydney's critical role as a global aviation gateway." He also said, "We are also delighted that they have chosen Sydney as the destination for their first direct route to be launched in the coming years."

The first flight is scheduled to arrive at the tarmac at 4 PM this afternoon.
