A passenger plane carrying 60 passengers and 4 crew members crashed near Washington D.C. after colliding with a military helicopter. The passenger plane was approaching Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, just outside the U.S. capital, when it went down into the Potomac River.
It is currently known that American Airlines Flight 5342 had 60 passengers and 4 crew members on board. The flight collided mid-air with a Sikorsky H-50 Black Hawk helicopter carrying three soldiers at approximately 9 p.m. local time. The flight originated from Wichita, Kansas, and was preparing to land at Reagan Airport.
There are currently no confirmed reports of casualties. Washington D.C. police have announced that the plane crashed into the Potomac River. Search and rescue operations are currently underway in the river. The crash has resulted in the suspension of all takeoffs and landings at Ronald Reagan International Airport. The U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter involved in the collision with the passenger plane had three crew members and was not carrying any dignitaries.
