Abstract: Stephen Grove crashed at Bathurst 12 Hour, hospitalized for observation after a car-to-wall incident initiated by Habul's overtake attempt. No penalties issued yet.

During the Bathurst 12 Hour race, Stephen Grove was taken to hospital for observation following a crash. The incident occurred in the third hour of the race, when Grove's Mercedes car hit the outside concrete wall at the Skyline section of the Mount Panorama circuit.

The impact caused the car to become airborne before landing on all four wheels and sliding down the track. Grove was able to extract himself from the car and leave the vehicle on his own. According to the Bathurst 12 Hour website, Grove was “experiencing shortness of breath” and has been transported to Orange Hospital for “further observation”.

The crash occurred when Kenny Habul attempted to overtake Grove on the inside. Habul, a two-time Bathurst 12 Hour winner, apologized for his role in the incident. “I’m sorry for the incident with Grove’s car, I know we were side-by-side,” he said on the race’s television broadcast. “He slowed down and moved over, I thought he was going to let me through, so I’m very disappointed for them.”

Habul did not receive any penalties following the incident with Grove. The incident remains under further investigation to determine the ultimate cause of the accident.
