Yesterday afternoon, a shark attack occurred on Bribie Island, tragically resulting in the death of a 17-year-old girl. It is understood that the victim was a surf lifesaver who swam at the beach daily.
The tragedy occurred at Woorim Beach, located approximately 70 kilometers north of Brisbane. At the time, Charlize Mutlow was swimming in the ocean when, around 4:45 PM, she was attacked by a shark in front of horrified onlookers. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, they were ultimately unable to save her life.
This morning, Charlize's heartbroken parents and loved ones gathered at the beach to express their deep sorrow for their daughter. Her parents stated that Charlize was highly respected in the community. They told the "Today" show that Charlize served as the captain of the Bribie Island Surf Lifesaving Club in 2024 and often drove around the beach in a four-wheel-drive vehicle picking up trash. She was kind-hearted, helpful, and in her final year of high school, having just attended her school's graduation ball.
"She had the biggest heart and would do anything for anyone," Charlize's parents said sorrowfully.
