Abstract: NZ highway commuters risked their lives to stop a runaway car after the driver had a seizure. They guided the vehicle to safety, and the driver is stable.

On a busy highway in New Zealand, a driver suffered a sudden illness, causing the vehicle to lose control. Several commuters risked their lives to bravely stop the runaway car amidst the traffic.

The incident occurred on the Northwestern Motorway in Auckland at approximately 8:18 a.m. on Tuesday (6:18 a.m. Australian Eastern Daylight Time), and a dashcam captured the entire event. The video shows a white Toyota hatchback drifting erratically across multiple lanes.

Several concerned drivers, noticing the vehicle's abnormal behavior, quickly took action. Several workers ran towards the car, attempting to prevent it from crashing into the highway shoulder or other vehicles. One of them reached into the car window to help control the vehicle's direction. Jeff Benjamin, one of the good Samaritans who helped guide the vehicle safely to the side of the road, had half his body hanging out of the driver's side window at one point.

Benjamin posted the video online, stating that the driver had suffered an epileptic seizure. He said the people wearing orange work suits were his colleagues. "We got him out of the car because he looked like he had stopped breathing. Unfortunately, he had another seizure, so we had to do our best to restrain him to stop him from rolling onto the road," Benjamin said. "My colleagues worked exceptionally well together, and I really couldn't have done it without them."

Following the incident, the driver was transported to the hospital and is currently in stable condition.
