Abstract: Cairns: Home invasion, woman sexually assaulted, partner held at knifepoint. Two teens arrested, one suspect at large. Police investigation ongoing.

A shocking home invasion and sexual assault occurred in Cairns, Queensland. A woman was sexually assaulted in her home while her partner was held at knifepoint by the assailants. Police have arrested two teenagers, while one suspect remains at large, prompting an intensive search.

Detective Inspector Kevin Goan revealed that three teenage males broke into a home in Manunda at approximately 3:30 a.m. today, while a couple in their thirties were asleep. Inspector Goan stated, "One of the male offenders restrained the male occupant inside the house, while the other two offenders forced the female occupant outside to an external area with a knife and sexually assaulted her." This brazen act has deeply shaken the local community.

Inspector Goan described the case as one of the most heinous home invasion crimes he has encountered during his time as a detective. He added, "The victims will suffer lifelong trauma from this incident, and we extend our deepest sympathies to them." The three suspects fled the scene immediately after the assault.

After receiving the report, police, with the assistance of the dog squad, arrested a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old boy about an hour later on nearby McCormack Street. It is reported that these two teenagers have prior criminal records; they have been taken into custody and are being questioned. They are expected to be charged later this afternoon as the investigation progresses.

Inspector Goan stated that the third suspect is still at large and is described as having an Aboriginal appearance, approximately 175 cm tall, with black hair, brown eyes, and dark skin. He was last seen wearing a light-colored hoodie. Police have committed all resources to apprehend him as quickly as possible and stated that they have strong leads and expect to apprehend him soon. Police also believe that the group may be involved in other burglaries in the area. The crime scene has been cordoned off, and the investigation is ongoing. Police are urging anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers immediately, aiding in the apprehension of the remaining suspect and resolution of related cases.
