Queensland Premier David Crisafulli is remaining silent on whether he will break an election promise and follow recommendations to build a new stadium for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.
Crisafulli had previously vowed not to build a new stadium if elected. However, he also commissioned a 100-day independent review of venues for the Olympics and Paralympics.
Channel Nine News exclusively revealed that a draft of the review report has been submitted to the government, recommending the construction of a new stadium in Victoria Park. It is understood that the preferred option for senior members of the Liberal National Party (LNP) was to rebuild the Gabba, but the review report questions whether the reconstruction can be completed in time, as demolition of the Gabba cannot begin until after the Ashes Cup match in December.
Furthermore, relocating Australian Football League (AFL) and cricket matches during construction would incur an additional cost of $300 million AUD. Currently, public opinion on the location of the main stadium is divided, and related opinion polls are underway to gauge public sentiment.
This opinion poll is not a scientific survey and only reflects the opinions of visitors who choose to participate. Further analysis will be broadcast on the 6 p.m. news.
