Abstract: Tesla recalls ~300 Model 3/Y (2022-23) due to a software bug causing potential power steering loss. Fix via OTA update, version 2023.38.4+ unaffected.

Tesla recently issued a recall notice affecting two of its models due to a software issue that could potentially cause the vehicles to lose power steering assist.

The recall impacts nearly 300 vehicles, including Model Y and Model 3 vehicles manufactured in 2022 and 2023. The issue stems from a software malfunction that may prevent the electronic power steering system from functioning as intended.

The recall notice states: "This could lead to a loss of power steering assist, requiring the driver to exert greater steering force. Loss of power steering assist while driving can increase the risk of an accident, potentially causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users."

The recall will be addressed by updating the vehicle software, without requiring customers to schedule a service appointment. The software version containing the fix will be deployed to all affected vehicles via OTA (Over-The-Air) update. If your vehicle is running software version 2023.38.4 or later, your vehicle is not affected by this issue.

You can confirm your vehicle's software version by tapping "Controls" > "Software" on the touchscreen. For more information about this recall, please visit the Department of Transportation website.
