Cumbria Police stated that a man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. The incident took place at approximately 5 p.m. GMT at the Kendal Rugby League Club on Shap Road. The vehicle involved was a black BMW i40.
Club Chairman Dr. Stephen Green stated, "We extend our condolences to the victim's family and friends and ask that everyone respect their privacy during this difficult time." He also added that the club is cooperating with the investigation and all facilities will be closed during this period.
Tim Farron, the Member of Parliament for Westmorland and Lonsdale, posted on social media platform X, calling it "shocking, desperately heartbreaking news." He stated, "My prayers are with the children and their family and friends. The Kendal community will be utterly shocked and heartbroken."
